New member with some performance questions
« on: September 28, 2007, 08:46:36 AM »

I just got a 95 dodge avenger es with the 2.5 v6 today  with $400 for a trade for my 88 shelby z dodge daytona that needed a lot of work. The avenger has 150k on it but has had the transmission replaced about a year ago. the ball joints, brakes, plugs, wires, distributer cap are all new. it has lots of new parts and runs awesome and handles good. the ride is a little bumpy but i figure that thats how avengers normally ride sitting so low to the ground. Its dark green and needs a littlel body work. needs prob a new hood and passager fender because they are dented real bad in the same spot. the bumper is cracked and chipped as well. The guy i got it from ported the intakes gasket matched ect and installed a CAI however the filter sits in the engine bay and has a tube goin to th front bumper for a ram air type feed but it goes into the center of the cone and the rest sits in the hot engine bay suckin in hot air. im probably gonna redesign that so it gets all cold air by movin the filter. he also put a race pipe in there but i think the exhaust is stock other than no cat. It had a leak tho up by the downpipe area from a gasket that i need to seal up. other than that i have a few questions for u guys:

The oil light occasionally flickers but the gauge reads good and the engine runs like a top with no problems. Is this a bad pressure sender and someone told me there are two for this car  which one should it be?

The anti-lock light is on and the e-brake doesnt work which i want to fix the ebrake the abs im not so worried about but am curious as to what it is.

Also i had a 90 dodge daytona es with the sohc 3.0 v6 and on that u could run premium gas and advance the timing for extra power by rotating the distributer. the increase was significant and i want to try this on the avenger if its posssible.

Last for now what size is the stock tb on the 2.5? i know a lot of people port them but are there any other dodge tb's or anything bigger than is an fairly easy swap?? thanks i'll prob post pics tommarow of the car

1) I'd check the oil, and has it been changed recently ... 1/2 a quart can cause this
2)ABS need a scan to see if it's the rings/sensors, or the computer ...
3)NO the distrib here can not be adjusted ... A superchips ICON can get the timing to advance electronically
4)54MM can be bored to 59MM ... There is a jeep TB thats 60MM but it's more then a bolt up to get it to work ..

what problem are you having with the emergency brake? the ebrake cable usually rusts up from lack of use on the autos.

if you are mechanically inclined take the rear disk off and check the assembly not only do the cables rust but the assemlys seize or there could be no pad or its not been adjusted.

well turns out i have a bad right front stabalizer link and bad stablizer bar bushings. I ordered the 19mm energy suspenison poly bushings and have to replace the stab link hopefully i can find one for a good price. As for the jeep tb what has to be done to get this to work. modify the bolt holes? what about the sensors ect. how much gain can be seen from this? supposvly the previous owner port matched the upper and lower intakes so that probably would help. I got a real good CAI on there but he cut out the pre cats and flex sections so it leaks at the front flange. all he has in there is clamped pipe where the cat and flex were so i gotta be losing some power there from the exhaust leak

The jeep tb you need to tig in the old mounting holes then drill /tap new holes into the plenum ... I think the tps needs modded but I never bothered since I'm bored to 59mm

what about a 3.0 tb from a stratus or eclipse they are 60mm arent they? will my ported intakes flow as well as a 3.0 intake or 3.5 dimante intake?

You will like the Energy stabilizer bushings.  Did you get the red or black? Measure the back ones before you order...there are a couple of different sizes.

with a bigger bore, throttle response is really good. I did the jeep throttle body on my stock manifold which was also bored to 60 mm. you to have to weld the stock holes and redrill. the tps works fine, the problem is with the IAT u have to use the one from the jeep which works fine, and also it has to be filed down a bit to fit. where the cable attaches needs a bit of work too. it just needs a hole drilled, make urself a gasket and ur all set.
