Sorry it's been a while since I've been on here. I have a quick question for you... To unbolt the connector from the solenoid pack, do I need to have the car up on ramps or is this something I can access without the use of ramps (i.e. - just open the hood and unplug it)? Thanks in advance!
More than likely, you'll need to go ahead and either put it up on ramps or jack stands. Since the solenoid [if i'm not mistaken] is attached to the transmission, and the transmission is located on the bottom of the engine, unless you have Dr. Fantastic's arms, you probably won't be able to reach it from the top without taking a few things off.
This is in case Bob is really busy and isn't able to respond in time.
Normally I would agree with SHI but in this case...on an f4ac1 trans...the solenoid pack is mounted vertically at right angles to a machined pad on the front of the trans. It is easiest to pop the hood and use an 8 MM socket to unbolt the 1x2 inch connector. Yours may have a foam sound shield on it but the connector is still accessible from the topside.
Just come straight off the front valve cover from left to right about 8 inches and drop straight down to the trans...there it is!
Be careful not to shove any dirt down in the connector that might spread terminals when you put it back together.
