blowing fuse
« on: January 03, 2006, 04:20:46 PM »

arf! this is getting frustrating. my power windows have started blowing the fuse lately if i roll both windows up at the same time. i can roll them down at the same time, but not up without blowing the freaking fuse. replace the master switch as i figured that's what it was, but didn't help. what else is it? ya think its the motor?

If it's only blowing them when you're rolling them up, it could be the motor is straining to push the weight up, and it's requiring more power to do so.  And your fuse is too small.  What size is the fuse you're blowing?  I'd go to the next bigger size, or possibly even the size above that.  If it rolls down without a problem it's likely not crossed wires, but I wouldn't totally rule it out.  Try upgrading the fuse first, and then UPDATE!!

NEVER increase fuse size  Shocked They are designed to protect components and wiring ...Increasing the size will just either burn out the motor, switch or wiring harness ... FIND the problem ...I'd guess it could be either the motor OR the tracks might be too tight and need lubed ...

I've increased the fuse sizes with no problems, other than burning out an already dying motor.

I agree.  I use to install stereos and alarms, seen what this can do!  Find the problem.  I would start with popping the door panels off and using some Lithium greese on the tracks and seeing if that helps.

try swapping motor to other side if it blows the fuse it's likely the motor if it doesn't then it's the track/sissor mechanism

teh fact that this happens ONLY when BOTH switches are sued does mean that there is undue strain. can the motors actually pull more power than when they are used normally together on a car without fuses getting blown?

i dunno. all i know is its frustrating. don't have another motor to test it with and i keep blowing freakin fuses. although they are cheap and only like 2 bucks a piece, i have to remember to keep like 4 extras in my car at all times. cuz my dumbass keeps forgetting and rolling them both up out of habbit when i park and then they are stuck half way rolled down. can't leave the car like that an open invitation for people to steal my stuff. Sad

not sure why it started happening. never used to do that. Sad
