What is the proper method for tapping a wire? BV if you could, draw up a diagram. The car's previous owner stripped a 1 inch part of the wire and simply wrapped the other wire around it and electrical taped it. Is there any better method than that, b/c the fuse kept popping after i removed those Lime Snot green LED underglows [and before] when i would try to use the 12v lighter.
Now i'm halfway through doing a console conversion, so i've removed the lighter AND cleaned all of the spray paint off it. I'm hoping that was the problem but i need to know the proper taping method b/c i'm going to be using 2 LED's to tell me from a distance if my car is locked or not. I'm thinking of taping either the interior lights or the power wire on the door locks. It'll probably be the lights seeing as how that will give me the greatest range of LED mounting locations.

So would the way it was wrapped, cause it to pop fuses?

Every time i put like a car charger or an FM transmitter in there, it blew the fuse. Now, i built my own 'battery pack' to do 12v testing and the lighter works fine [using the same fm transmittor that blew the fuse earilier], of course there's no inline fuse to pop.


Thats one of the LED's i'll be using.

And oh, that battery pack is just 8 AA batterys linked together [using aluminum foil strips about 1.5 inches long] with a wire on the last battery's negative and the first battery's positve and wrapped in ALOT of electrical tape.

If anyone attempts this, remember, POSITIVE TOUCHS NEGATIVE AND VICE VERSA.

And this is what it looks like. basically it clamps on the wire, but i'm wondering, would it be better to expose the wire a little or should i just let it hopefully cut through the insulation. Or will it actually cut through?

So i guess i'll be twisting and taping. I have a soldering gun thta i'd like to use, however, there's no way the cord will reach where i need to go.

Given that it will be 3 wires, think i should braid em? lol
