If I'm tapping into a wire I strip back about 1/2" of insulation wrap the "new" wire into the existing wire , Solder connection then wrap with electrical tape ...
If I'm adding extra circuits I strip back the existing wire then add the additional wires then use crimp caps then tape over the crinp caps
Crimp caps are shaped like wire nuts , but the tops instead of twisting you use a wire crimper on ...

I use Heatshrink tubing instead of elecrtical tape

ok. so basically my option is to expose part of the power wire, wrap the led power wire around that TIGHTLY and tape it up to take care of the exposed wires, right?

Also, where would i attach the negative wire? I'm hooking this into the power door locks power line. that way when the lock closes or opens, the LED will light up and i can see it from a good distance away. My headlights don't flash and my horn doesn't honk, so i have no way other than the interior light coming on. I'd LOVE to hook it into that b/c i can just run the wire cleanly across the [] of the ceiling and place the LED where i see fit, but I feel like i'm going to break the interior light assembly.

I have no sunroof, so i have the ceiling assembly, not the mirror mounted ones.

negative goes to ground, anything touching the chassis that is metal should be fine.
