Noise From Rear
« on: November 26, 2005, 09:51:22 AM »

I have a 1996 Dodge Avenger with 140,000 miles on it.  It has the v6.  When i drive it, I hear a noise coming from the passenger rear side.  It gets louder as the car go faster, doesn't change with engine speed change.  It sounds like something is rubbing, but it feels fine... Any ideas on what could be causing this.

I don't know if all V6 have disc or not, but if it has drums I would check that out.  If it's disc I'd check the air catch and make sure that's not rubbing on the rotor.

Mod List.  Um WAY too many to fit on here.  But the engine can handle about 800HP

on the rear most likely either a wheel bearing or brakes. maybe the parking brake hanging up. does the sound change while braking?

I had the same thing happen and it was the real wheel/hub assembly.

it could also be the parking break on the rear disk which is a small drum inside what is called a hat. Take the wheel off and then remove the calliper take the rotor off and you will see the small drum in it adjust that and the noise should go away thats the eaiest fix for it at first it that doesnt solve it try one of the other suggestions.
