Check Engine Light on again...
« on: September 06, 2007, 06:03:19 AM »

This is really the only time it ever comes on... It's when I'm on the highway doing between 55 and 70... It's only when I accelerate.. The light will start to flash but as soon as I let off the gas it goes off... As soon as I press it again it will come on... Mind you it happens sparatically but it's becoming more common... Any ideas? Huh

If it's flashing, and not staying steady, that means your computer is reading something seriously wrong with your motor.  It flashes whenever something big changed, big loss in compression, stuff like that.

Mod List.  Um WAY too many to fit on here.  But the engine can handle about 800HP

Well it used to do it a lot when that crappy pennzoil was in there. Since I changed it to Castrol it's been a lil' better. Apparently, when I had my last tune up, my mechanic said he saw a small oil leak. Said something about a head gasket. It went back in a month later and no leak. Could this possibly be the high whistle noise I get when traveling those speeds? Maybe smoething is cracked?

Would that be the most likely culprit?

Flashing engine light?  There's something serious.  Do you know how to do the key dance?  If you do, do it and come back and tell us what it is, if you don't look at the top of your screen and check "CEL codes"

Well you can start with the cheapest stuff.  Plugs, wires, oil change (check for anything weird in your oil), all that good stuff.

New oil went in about 500 miles ago. Plugs and wires are about 7500miles old.

OK, first of all....The ONLY reason (and I do mean ONLY) is that the Pcm is detecting a misfire in a cylinder that is so repeatable that catalytic converter meltdown is  imminent. This happens because the pcm continues to spray fuel in the port even if the cylinder is not contributing. The unburned fuel and air shot goes to the cat where it tries to burn it all and soon your carpet is smoking.

If the light is flashing continuously...and I am speaking to this entire community ...do not pass go , do not collect 200 dollars , have the car towed to your crib!

Now to your issue....I have had the exact same thing happen....when the fuel pump is dying or the fuel filter is plugged it can go lean enough to run ok off the throttle but will not take a load without leaning out and misfiring...that is what appears to be happening.  I am gonna bet you can't blow thru your fuel filter anymore.

Well it's all gonna be replaced in december.. The 2.5 is coming out and a fresh 3.0 is going in, XIracing headers, magnaflow cat, and a flowmaster exhaust.. So not too worried unless it blows up...
