I removed the cover and the cushion. I did not manage to get the headrest tubes out. It seems simple, squeeze the ends that are inside the backrest and pull the plastic tube out, but....
The back rest has brackets that attach it to the support arms (on the seat) with 2 bolts on each side. The brackets are made from POS thin metal that is POS spot welded to the backrest frame.
Only the backrest support arm on the left side of the driver's seat locks up. The right one is spring supported but has no lock.
I hammered the bent parts back into shape and welded the broken piece back in. You need a MIG welder (which I don't have)....my arch welder happily burnt holes. I barely managed to get it to hold together. I covered my welds in duct tape because I was so ashamed.

So far, so good.....
I used zip ties to re-attach the seat cover, instead of the round metal clamps. It is easier to mount and tighten and seems to hold.
