HELP!!!
« on: August 14, 2007, 08:38:36 PM »

Ok I have absolutely no idea on this one... Last night me and my buddy got home after doing 110mph on a stretch and we took a look under my hood.. He told me to hurry up and shut off my headlights. When he told me to look back under the hood, while the car's running, you could see flashes of light coming from the plug wires... They were pretty bright too.. Anybody have any idea??? Huh

Are the wires exposed, as in the insulation is missing?

No... When I looked just about ten min. ago, it's next to the stock intake pipe.. Maybe not the spark plug wires but another set. O2 snesors? I need to find a pic Smiley

I'd look closely at where they are coming from.  If they are coming from the spark plug wires, replace the wires, the cap, and the rotor.  Pay attention for any misfire or knock.

I would go with bad venge on this i have seen it before many times on older cars that have the same old ignition wires they go sorta bad and arc to each other its not good but it wont stop the car from running even running fine.

I have a pic but I can't get it up... I could give you reference of JBI's pic though...

It's on the left side of the engine near the spark plug wires, behind the engine coolant cap, and to the left of the intake... Kinda gives a lil' frame of reference there.

It's called Corona and it is a natural phenom in all high tension electrical devices. If you can solder a piece of wire to an alligator clip on one end and a T pin to the other then ground it and trace each wire whle idling and kill  a cylinder...replace the wires soon. If you run bad wires long....the conventional wisdom is that it overloads the insulation in the coil (in the distributor) on a 2.5l v6. It becomes a two hundred dollar repair then!

Cool. Now a new problem... When i'm driving down the highway, my engine or something makes a high whistle noise when traveling between 55 and 70mph... That between 1900 and 2500rpm... After that, no noise... Seems to make more noise when I accelerate a lil' bit... Any ideas? Undecided
