Do not get the tune up. Been there done that. Also crankshaft sensor does not work. Good luck. I have been trying to figure this out since February of last year. Every 3 - 6 months my car is in the shop for abs, battery, and air bag lights coming on and engine cutting out.

you may have similar symptoms but a different problem.
Yeah i know amsoil isnt certified but its NEVER let me down and the vehicles that I have put it in have performed better for longer than the others....so from experience its not so bad
Werd.. Alright new problem... Way back when I got my car, about a year ago , I had my check engine light going off like crazy. It would always be on... Mind you that that's with a really good tune up and that crappy pennzoil in it. Now when it was tuned up, they said they noticed a small oil leak and they asked if i could bring it back in a week. I did that and no oil leak, they said it was drip from changing fluids.. Sooo, after that, no more cel's for a long time... Until I changed my oil... Now my check engine light is crazy on the highway but just on the highway, just between 55 and 70.. It'll flash a lot then I let off the gas and it's gone. Press the gas again and there it is. It's never solid though. Think that there may be a oil leak or I'm losing compression cuz that waxy pennzcrap is outta there and the good Castrol is in there cleaning it all up?

matt's right. probably a cylinder misfire that is being picked up. could be anything from plug wires to egr to distributor to god knows what. don't know how long the penisoil has been run through it, but it's unlikely that it is the root of the problem. you can pull the valve cover and inspect, but a decent quality oil will eventually purge out waht was build up. what does your oil pressure look like?
if your light is on keydance it or get your codes read.. even if the light goes out, it'll still store in the history. That's probably the first thing you should get done. the most common reason of compression loss would be valve damage... or for people who've used NOS... a small hole in the top of your piston. But if your code is reading Cyl misfire... replace plugwires and plugs, then move up.

Thanks for all the info guys.. Just got back from getting it scanned cuz today the light stayed on permanently. Got two codes... MCF... Multiple Cylinder Misfire... You guys got it right on the nose.. It's going into the shop over the weekend. Of course this mechanic doesn't wanna worry about plugs and wires cuz they're only 7k old... He wants to look at the sensors, egr and distributor... Honestly my bet is on the distributor.
