Any check engine lights?

It might be a bad tank of gas, or the beginning of the end of you fuel pump relay. Its a cheap fix, so its the best place to start if the fuel cleaner doesn't fix things.

long shot but.

When you take the cap off, it releases pressure on the fuel system, correct?

could this be a fuel pressure problem? Such as too much fuel pressure?

Also, just in case it helps, is your key in the on position or do you take the key out when you pull the cap off?

Either way, i suggest new cap and fuel filter, followed by a double shot [5.25oz bottle] of Lucas Fuel System Cleaner.

By the way, which engine do you have?
