question jill....whats the difference if the other driver runs off or if the bridge goes out when you are being driven over it? the threat is real in both cases driving or being driven lol.

lol, trust me, that bridge... if you're nervous at all about bridges... you want to be riding. It is too narrow for how high it goes. It doesn't help that the turn in the bridge puts it in to perspective of what you're about to do. There are some nastier bridges, I'm sure but riding, you can always shut your eyes and not deal with it.

Dan has it right on the nose.  it's not that you ARE going to fall off the bridge.. it's how it appears it looks.  It starts out with it going up and taking a sharp turn so that you can't see where you are driving as it looks like the bridge is out and you are going to drive off the end into the bay.  I want to close my eyes and not see that it looks like you are going to just drive off into nothingness.  That and if it's windy it's pretty bad so you add those together and you have a pretty scary drive over it...lol.

There is a bit of the turn and raise of it from 1952.  Much more impressive when you are driving even.

its not the longest bridge in the world or even close but I believe it takes a good 5 minutes to get over... its like it makes you think long and hard about the high narrow part before you get there. looking in your side/rearview mirrors after the turn is creepy as well.

what about some of those bridges in cali and florida... i thought there is where your really high/long bridges are. but ... i guess that bridge that collapsed wasn't very long at all.

I had some sales training tonight, and the sales rep (from MN) was on the bridge 45 minutes before it happened

better to bounce than to snap under stress.

All bridges seem to bounce some... ever get stuck in traffic on a bridge?  One of the bridges from Canada to the US we would always get stuck on waiting in line.. of course cars and transport trucks going to the other way weren't as backed up.. nothing like sitting in traffic and having transport trucks roaring the other way making the bridge shake like crazy.  It wasn't a overly big bridge, but I couldn't wait til we were on the otherside and the bouncing stopped!
