My check engine light comes on and stays on for a while then goes away. I dont know what it is. When i got inspected it went away. then is came back on the next day.
Yeah, mine does that also. I've changed the O2 sensor that it says is bad, but the light still comes on every now and then. I keep getting the same code, too. It makes no sense at all.
really a cel misfire code could be due to many different things, and you'll not necessarily get a specific code as to what is causing it. as was said, as long as it is running alright and you're mileage is normal, i wouldn't worry too much. but when you get up in the higher mileage range as most of our cars are getting to, it's never a bad idea to do a general tune up. plugs, wires, fuel filter, egr etc..
yeah, get the code ran @ autozone or whereever. here, you won't pass inspection if you have a cel light on on a 96 or newer vehicle.

They hooked it up to the machine for inspection and the engine light went off. They said drive around and comeback tomarrow. It passed and the following day the light came back on. I really need to get the code
EGR measures emissions. It's useless, but you need it to pass inspection (I think??) I don't have to worry about inspection here, so maybe someone else can tell you the deal. But you can just buy a block off kit and throw a resistor in the sensor line, and you won't have an engine code, and it'll all look nicer without all those vacuum lines running from the EGR.
