Hood Latch
« on: June 06, 2007, 09:12:50 PM »

Did a search and couldn't find this topic.  I can't find any info on this anywhere really.  I have a 97 Sebring LX, 2.5L

My hood latch broke recently after popping the hood.  I had to pull the hood release really hard and it made a ping sound.  The only thing holding the hood down was the safety latch.Shocked  I have it tied down right now.  The release cable may be damaged as well but I can't see it yet.

I have a brand new latch assembly ready to install but I can't access the bolts to get the current one off. It looks like I have to remove the front bumper to get to the bolts on the latch.

Does anyone know how to properly remove the front bumper?  This is the only way to access the latch.

I thought you can just unbolt the black metal guard around it and unbolt it from the bumper where it joins to the bumper with the black arch to get at the bolts for the latch

Yeah, I tried that but wasn't able to get enough clearance for the socket wrench.  I just want to make sure I take the bumper off properly so that I don't break something.

Today, I got into the car after my early morning job and when I pressed the window buttons, the whole unit (door locks/window) fell into the door.  Luckily it didn't go all the way down into the door and I was able to pull it back up with my fingers on the window buttons.

The car is having lots of annoying problems lately...these are just a few things on top of others.

front bumper removal =
All the above bolts, remove inner fender wells to access to 10mm bolts each side (they will likely break if they have been in winter weather/salt)
I believe 4 plastice screws in the mouth opening

Thanks!  Living in the Chicagoland area, those bolts will probably snap.  Oh well. Undecided  I appreciate the info.

I have to replace the door panel.  The mounting location for the window switches broke.  Hopefully nothing else will break.
