A/C system problem (99 2.5L ES)
« on: June 06, 2007, 12:27:02 PM »

I am hoping someone can help me troubleshoot my A/C problem.  Here's the story.

- The compressor clutch is not engaging, but all of the other A/C functions seem to work. (condenser fan turns on, etc.)

- The clutch will engage when I jump power at the relay.  Therefore the relay is not getting signal to turn on.

- I have 12v to the coil side of the relay. There is some continuity on the ground side of the coil but resistance is ~32kohm.

- I jumped the high/low pressure switch and the clutch didn't engage.

- The refrigerant temp switch checks out OK per the fact service manual.

I am really running out of ideas here. I am starting to think it might be the PCM.  According to the wiring diagrams the PCM is the only other thing that could keep the relay from getting a signal to engage the clutch.

Does anyone know if there are any other inputs to the PCM that help it make a decision to engage the compressor clutch?

Thanks,

Dave

I only buzzed through this, and I'm tired so maybe I missed it, but replace the relay?  They're like two bucks.

Mod List.  Um WAY too many to fit on here.  But the engine can handle about 800HP

I forgot to include the fact that I have tested and switched the relay with another and it didn't fix the problem.

I have narrowed it down to the fact that the PCM is not allowing the relay to get a ground. Either the PCM is faulty or their is another input to the PCM that is telling it not to turn on the compressor.

I had the same problem with my audi, we just hotwired it to the switch then put a little fuse in and wired it to the clutch.
