If the cost is so high were is that money going?  I know not all DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) money goes just to roads, but doesn't any of it?

about 1/2 the cost is for the mandatory collective insurance, that way anyone who owns a car in Quebec is insured and we don't have those stupid law suits for $1,000,000 because someone bumped you on a parking lot and you have "mysterious back pain" that insurance if for the persons not the cars which need to be covered by a private car insurance  and it's an extension of our health system
$30 is for financing the devellopment of the mass transit system in the great montreal region and the rest is going on roads etc

Wow I knew about the Public Health Insurance, but not Auto (people) coverage.  That's a bit nuts.

Wow I knew about the Public Health Insurance, but not Auto (people) coverage.  That's a bit nuts.

the insurance doesn't cover the car but the peoples

let say you are smashed on the side you spend 3 weeks at the hospital, you need to be out of works for 12 weeks you need a wheel chair for a few weeks you need special care at home etc etc and after a year you need a surgery on a bone

in USA you would need a big private insurance for your bills and you would need to sue the driver of the car who smashed yours it will take years to settle everything and that's IF the owner of the car has any insurance at all
chances are high he will just go bankrupt and you are left with huge bills

here no one is left uncovered and no one need to sue someone the public health system will take care of the hospital and all the medical expense the insurance that we pay for on our driver license fee and registration fees will take care of everything else and the mandatory private car insurance will pay for the damages to the cars

nuts ? no I don't think so

LOL not nuts in a bad, way just something WAY different than I'm used too.  You even use the term Private Insurance.  That's weird to me.  I'm so used to the USA that insurance is something that it's the sole responsibility of the individual.  How well do you think the insurance works??

But that's it for now, don't want to whore up the thread anymore  Grin
