Also I'm losing oil , but it is not showing any puddles so I'm guessing it is burning or just......a little elf is sucking the oil out when I dont know. but I noticed oil in the PCV valve.....and spark plug #3. Tell me what you guys and gals think. PEACE  Cool

Pull off the radiator cap and take a look at the coolant.  If it looks brown and frothy, you have a head gasket leak.  Also if the oil looks frothy, it will be a head gasket.

yea It looks like there could be some oil in there , It is hard to tell but I did not feel like trying to flush my system so I looked in the reservoir. Also my exhaust has some smoke. Just white , no blue. Looks like I'm going to be changing my head gasket. Now I havent really ever done any engine work ( I'm the electrical type , that is all I have ever fixed ) But I do have a little exp. I have changed some spark plugs in my time  Cheesy . Also I'm keeping an eye out for that little excrement ( the elf ) From what I have heard though changing a head gasket is not to bad. If that is true I'm hoping that some of you can walk me though it. Like a list of things I'm going to need and a little instructions.

It's pretty easy.  It's doing your timing that sucks.  And that come with a head gasket change.  If you really want to do it yourself I'll write you up a How To.

Timing is easy DT

first, you take the plugs out and move the engine to TDC.

Then you get the handy Chrysler Camshaft Sprocket tool and use it to hold the cam gears in place.

Remove old belt.

Replace tensioner, water pump, idlers etc.
Replace belt
pull the pin on the tensioner.
Remove the cam gear tool.
Reassemble stuff and start'er up.

Yep, thats what I did.

Only I didn't replace the tensioner and idler pulleys.  (on the v6)

But, timing is easy really.

Before you go replacing head gaskets you ought to check the oil for coolant.  If there isn't, you might be glad you looked.  If there is, you wont care becuase your next job is harder.

Just saying.

Six is different than the four.  I hate Nykon.  And um that's about it.  The timing without the proper tools is a pain then!!  Good luck if you decide to do it.  Maybe I just have a serious issue with timing.

very serious issue,

i almost forgot this was a four banger gasket replacement procedure, ive never had to replace one, so  a write-up would be pretty handy, i may need one soon. i'd ask nykon..but him n dt probably wont cuz i got the six...anyway pretty soon they will want a six...

n patrick..its probably a good idea to try the easy fix first before going the hard route...i hate regrets...

DT is right, without the special tool its a bitch.  When my Avenger blew it took the shop almost a week to get the timing right.   It was always about half a tooth off and would idle kinda cool but my powerband was all sorts of messed up.  without the tool you have to line everything up, move one half a tooth off in one direction, the other half a tooth off in the other direction and then when you release the tensioner it SHOULD pull everything into place... but good luck.

DT, we will find out if its as easy as I say in a couple of weeks when I help Matt do his.
And you love me  Grin

pray that your head is not cracked or warped.

I tried to replace the head gasket in my girlfriends mx6 (worthless piece of crap) last summer. ended up replacing the head with one from the junk yard. there's nothing like doing a job 3 times to make you lose your enthusiasm for it. lucky (or maybe not)for me there seem to be a plethora of mazda 12 valve engines at the local pick-n-pull.

JBI I will never EVER want the 6.  The plugs are too hard to change and until they get the 5spd up and running I hate slushbox trannies.
