I think it's a little of both.  I've taken enough media classes for my major to know that news, especially local news, puts an emphasis on crime because it's great for ratings.  Then when you get something like this, they have a field day.  Don't get me wrong, I beleieve this does deserve the attention of the media I just mean that there's gonna be non-stop coverage for at least a week.

Also, I have no data to back this up but it sure seems like the prevelance of mentally unstable/ill people is going up.  Whatever is going on I just wish there was a solution.  I heard that investagators found pomes and stories the shooter wrote and was remarkably similar to the Columbine shooters in terms of attitude and feeling that the world was against them so there's got to be some sort of things that might be an indicator that someone needs help.  IDK what else to say...

there were poems and short storied that he wrote, apparently he was a english major who obviously was required to write those things well they also were deeply disturbng to the professor who had to read them, he(the shooter) said that it was just his freedom to make stories that involved such violence and that was the only reason his poems and even a play he wrote contained so much violence, most had to do with murdering teachers/people, and in the case of the play it was about an abusive step father

i think it's ridiculous that everytime something tragic like this happens, everyone wants someone or something to BLAME... they're investigating the school and teachers, and gun laws... it was a crazy guy, who purchased the guns LEGALLY. if the school responded faster, people still would have died. it's not like star wars, where they can just "seal the blast doors" if stuff goes wrong.... and shame on the media and tv reporters for asking the survivors in their hospital beds, "how did you feel when the shooting started?".

Agreed, its not the schools fault that he did what he did, its not the cops fault that he did what he did, if they were to respond to every shooting in the area with SWAT well then taxes would be up (to help pay the cops) an people would complain about that too, chalk it up to he was a lunatic and a worthless human being that did something that really should never happen. But it did and sh*t does happen even horrible sh*t. and its a damn shame.

Blaming everything for anything is human nature.  People love the idea that there is more to something when usually it is what it is.

Dave and I were just bitchin about then giving this idiot airtime and sensationalizing it rather than doing a story on the guy that gave his life to try and save people.  We tend not to watch the news much anymore.
