When i bought my car the door speakers blown. so i went and bought some rockfords at best buy and they installed them (cause i dont know anything about stereo). they worked great for a while but a while ago they stopped working. Only the tweeters i got with them work now. The big ones dont make a sound. ive got the infinity sound system. one of my buddies told me a new head unit would fix it, but i think ill ask around before spending any money. any help would greatly be appreciated. thanx

Sounds like the head unit to me. The same thing happened to my on my 95 240sx SE a few years back. the two front channels crapped out on me. Bad Venge, does the Infinity amp only produce 'sound' if it's hooked up to the head unit, or is the front channel coming directly off the amp or the head unit? Reason i'm asking is because i've seen people test speakers by grounding them and touching the lead to the the positve battery terminal. Wouldn't he be able to hear at least a little crackle if he were to "brush" the lead for the front channel against the speaker lead?

To test the speakers I use my drill battery , hit the two terminals and listen for the crack/pop...If only the front door speakers are out and the tweets are still working then it's the amp ... if both the door and tweets are down it could be either the head unit or the amp (no way to test on the info I have)
I tested the speakers with a drill battery like you said, and they worked. When I turned on the radio there was still no sound. I dont know if this helps but there was a little box a the size of a baseball that all the wires ended up in too. I think remember they modified the spreakers to fit the infinity amp too. Is it the head unit? How could the head unit make such a difference?

i went to best buy and had them look at it they said that the "front two channels weren't working" (i dunno what that means ) they told me it could either be the head unit or the amp. if i just put the amp in they told me id have to spend extra money trying to fit it to the stock radio... so i guess ill just do the head unit first... even if it doesnt solve the problem, it'll still be easier to put the amp in and it will save cash in the long run. it was real wierd a buddy of mien was working there i hadnt seen him in 5 years... but he told me to call him and he'll hook me up on the install. so i guess the day wasnt a total loss . Thanks guys!

Did you check the DASH tweeters 3" on top The baseball sized box does it have an input and two outputs It might be a crossover they added component speakers
I didn't check the dash ones...hm... How do I check those? or remove them. cause i dont think they work either. lol.
Yeah i think that box thing is a crossover beacause the input form the stereo, speaker output and, and all the tweeters hook up there. basically everything is wired into that little box. Is that a crossover?
Hopefully a head unit will fix it. if not ill just buy a new amp. all i want is to be able to Led Zep with even sound, not just sound coming out of the back ones. and yes quality Led Zep is totally worth 300 bucks.

dash speakers listen for output , no music try the battery trick ... if that all works then you'll have to try the head unit wiring as follows:
Constant 12V+ Red Switched 12V+ Blue Ground Black/Yellow Illumination n/a Dimmer Green/Yellow Antenna Left Rear
Front Speakers 6 3/4" Doors
Left Front (+) White/Blue Left Front (-) Black/Blue Right Front (+) White/Red Right Front (-) Black/Red
Rear Speakers 6" x 9" Rear Deck
Left Rear (+) Yellow/Blue Left Rear (-) Gray/Blue Right Rear (+) Yellow/Red Right Rear (-) Gray/Red
If you have a speaker try to jump it over the fronts and see if there is an output... you can run wiresdirectly to the door speakers to (disconnect the current wiring) if you get sound then it's the amp , no sound it's the head unit
Correct , You never answered if the tweets were working... if the tweets are working then the front channels are operational from the head unit ..You are missing the door channels from the amp, since the amp is six channels you are going to have to replace it with the same ...
