Predator Downpipe
« on: December 17, 2005, 03:11:32 AM »

I was debating buying the predator downpipe from ERT, but I noticed that it says that it removes the pre-cats. So my question is will it still pass emissions and will it cause a check engine code? It does say that it won't pass California emissions but I just wanted to check before I spend the money.

I was looking at them too. From what I read (and I may be wrong) you won't pass emissions with a d/p. But that's something you might want to contact Exile about so you know for sure.

I bought a Downpipe from ERT and have had no problems. No CEL or anything. Minnesota no longer has emission testing so I can't help you there. But the down pipe is really worth the price. I love mine, Plus ERT rocks.  Grin

As long as you have a fully functional cat than you shouldnt have a problem.

I live in North Carolina and they aren't too strict about it as long as they hook it up and it doesn't throw any codes out then you're alright. So i guess I could probably get away with it right? Also to anyone who already has one, do you really gain 12hp?

a good cat at the proper operating temp and you should pass. the precats are only there to scrub the exhaust until the main cat warms up. once the main cat warms up the precats become nothing but a flow restriction in the exhaust.
i'd just make sure it's good and warm before inspection if possible.

slap that thing on man, it's a great upgrade for us. i put mine on myself a few years ago and had few problems, but those bolts do get brittle if they haven't been touched for awhile, o2 sensors included. just soak the bolts ahead of time and get new gaskets if you do it yourself. a small mapp torch came in handy for me.

I don't even know what a mapp torch is!  Cheesy LOL That's why i say someone else should put it on. Besides I don't even have ramps. What were the few problems, or were the rusty bolts it?

rusty bolts are the thing to watch out for. you just want to be careful not to break them off if possible. my stock downpipe had been on my car 7 years before i took it off but it came off well after soaking with pb blaster and a mapp torch. without a doubt the toughest part of the whole install is getting the old pipe off. past that it's not bad at all.
if you live around here i'm sure we could help you out. Wink

sorry to bring up an old post, but i'm looking for a new downpipe for my 95 es and have had no luck finding one.  Does anyone have a link for this down pipe?  I tried to look it up but couldn't fiind it on their website, must have overlooked it.  Has any one tried it, is it bolt on with no modifications, good quality?
Thanks guys

yes, post is old, but there is one Major thing that gets overlooked on the Downpipe info.  inless ERT has put out a new model of downpipe, it WILL NOT FIT on california spec vehicles.  The exhaust systems are different.  I had to send mine back.
