Power rating on stock Infinity amp
« on: December 17, 2005, 01:36:39 AM »

I've searched high and low trying to get the power rating on this amp!  I even emailed Infinity with this:
Quote from: me
I have an Inifinity amplifier model number MR158403

I would like to know the specs on this amp.  It came stock in my Sebring and I've been told that I can keep it ran to my speakers if I replace my stereo... I'm wondering if it is worth it to keep it or just run off the radio

This is what they replied with:
Quote from: Infinity rep
Hi,

Thank you for your inquiry. You have reached the website for the aftermarket car audio division.  Unfortunately I have no information regarding your original equipment audio system in your vehicle.  These questions can be best answered by contacting your local vehicle dealership, as we are not able to support these products being that they are made by the OEM division.

On Your factory system:
The OEM division produces only the upgraded amplifier and speakers for your factory system. The source unit is produced by another company. To this end, your dealership will be your only avenue for obtaining information on this unit as we do not have any information on these products.

So does anyone know the power rating?  I want to keep the stock wiring for now if it's at least 20watts RMS to each channel or better.  After I've had the setup a while I'd like to just upgrade the amp and keep the wiring the same.... but if it's not then I'll just have the amp bypassed and run the 22x4 RMS the Pioneer unit I bought will be pushing.

The reason Infinity has no info on it, is because Infinity just leases it's name out.  They don't actually have anything to do with it.  Which is why it's not that great of an amp.  What are you trying to do with it?  The amp will have better output than the stock headunit.  As for replacing the stereo you lose sound quality.  Sometimes it's hardly noticable, other times it's a very annoying whine, because you're amplifing an already amplified signal.  Aftermarket amps are built to deal with it, factory ones aren't.  I guess the decision to use the amp will be based on what you're planning on doing.

Mod List.  Um WAY too many to fit on here.  But the engine can handle about 800HP

My front speakers are blown (I bought the car like this.. just didn't notice it since I don't listen to the radio when test driving a vehicle... why would you?  I turned it on and made sure it worked but after I heard half a second I turned it back off immediately).

I decided to just replace everything...  So I ordered a Pioneer headunit and Kicker 6.5" speakers all around.  I know 6x9s are stock on this model but Crutchfield said the 6x9s I wanted would require some cutting or whatever and 6.5" wouldn't.... regardless I got a good deal on theses 6.5".

If the Infinity amp puts out more power than the Pioneer headunit (which puts out 22x4 RMS) then I want to just use the stock amp... however if what you say is audible then I'll have no choice but to do it otherwise.

I have heard people say that running a stereo this way will blow the amp after a while... is this true?  Also I'm aware I have to hookup the amp turnon on my harness.

Yes you can wreck the amp because it's made for an unamplified signal.  And the inputs from the HU are amplifed.  You'll get more power from the stock amp.  If it was me, I'd hook it up and see what it sounded like.  If it sounds good enough for you, then keep it that way.  If you blow the amp, who cares, because if you're not using anyway, you're not losing anything.  If you really want an amp for your Speakers, I'd hit up eBay and get a good deal on a four channel.

Six?  Two door, two deck, and then the sub?  I haven't dealt with this stock amp.  But the more I know the better.  Is the 5th, and sixth bridged for the sub?

I bypassed mine. My head-unit has a cool feature where you can cut off it's internal amp, just in case you wanted to run an amp. I have been debating installing an amp for my high end speakers and just undoing my amp bypass job and wiring in the new amp that way. I don't know if the pioneer deck you have offers that option, but it was just a thought. My last 2 head-units had that option, a JVC and my current Clarion.

What's the easiest way to bypass the amp if the sound quality isn't what I want it to be?  Just refer to the wiring diagram and take the wires from the input side of the amp and connect them to the output side?

Correct or you can go to Circuit City and pick up a bypass harness to save you time.  They're like 10-15 bucks.
