I put the rims that were on my Avenger on the Sebring yesterday and found three problems.
1. Even though they're the same size as stock they look like 16's
2. There's excessive tire roar I didn't hear in the Avenger. Of course that could just have been muffled by the loud exhaust I had but I don't like it!
3. Appearantly the Sebring requires hubcentric rings to elimenate a shimmy in the steering wheel. On club3g they have a nice write-up explaining how that all works but that just means more money out of my pocket.
Here's a few pics, pardon the dirty car It rained last night like you wouldn't believe.
I'll gladly take the rims off your hands once you get the 18-20's you're thinking about right now. lol. and BTW, car looks great. stop holding an umbrella over it when it rains on it.
i don't have an answer for questions 1 & 3, but for 2 it may just be the type of tires you have. that's about the only thing i can think of that would cause a lotta road noise. i use to have dunlops on my avenger and they were horribly loud. changed to some nitto neo gens and there is virtually no noise—at least from my tires, that is. diff tread patterns/heights have diff effects when in use. the more the dunlops wore, the louder they got.
well, i guess one answer for 1 would be diff ride height between the 2 vehicles. other than that, i have no idea what could be causing the problem. good luck with resolving your issues.

hubcentric rings are cheap. i liked the aluminum rings versus the plastic cuase they are easier to take off and reuse later. but basically any non-oe rim should use rings to center the wheel on the hub. if you don't use them with aftermarket wheels you are relying on the lug nuts to center the wheel on the hub and if it's off at all you'll get vibrations. i'd get them, my car rides so smooth with them.
i agree, go all out. 18s and a drop will be super schweet. 18s alone will not close that gap much (if at all). unless you don't get lower profile tires, but why wouldn't you do that? anyway, save up and do 'em both, it'll be worth it… imo

i hate not having the money for what i want, when i want it! that sucks. such is life, i guess. as for the rough ride, you might just want to get 18s b/c the lowering springs and struts will be stiffer than stock—i'm pretty sure, i haven't gotten the money saved up for mine yet . but, hey, you do have a sport car, and those don't ride the smoothest. 18s with medium size sidewalls (not real low pros) should been fine tho.
