SOUNDS FROM THE UNKNOWN!
« on: March 21, 2007, 09:40:40 PM »

I have been hearing clunking, and squeaking in the frontend of my venge, the guy who owned the car before me had not done the recall and i turned into the parking lot of a church and it busted 400 dollars out of my pocket, snapped axles and all, anyways i cant figure it out i am a auto technician in training. I know i need to fix my tie rods for sure i can move a whole 1/2 inch. any help would be nice.

p.s. i bought this car from used dealer, had been wrecked in past.

Could be a bad sway bar link, bad struts, brake calipers, control arm, engine mounts, axles.......  I can go on, but with more info I can be more helpful.

When do the noises occur?  Acceleration, braking, only after 20 MPH, only when turning.  Does it get worse when doing any of those things?

"squeaking in the frontend of my venge" : - check all front ball joints.  PB Blaster might shut them up temporarily, bu tnot a "sure" fix.

its when ever i hit a bump and when i am sitting still from switching to drive from reverse and i turn the steering wheel to takeoff as soon as i hit the gas it makes a clunking sound but only at first, and whenever i hit so uneven pavement it makes a clunking type sound only not as loud as if i was going over a bump slow.

Sounds like a suspension issue.  What all have they replaced on your car?  How long ago was it?

That's exacly what my car did before I got the ball joints done.. If you kinda hop the car with the throttle (bounce the front end abit) it knocked (clunked).. and every bump or uneven pavement.

check the ball joints.. lower laterals were my problem... check if the bushings are loose by prying up an down on them abit.

L.A.C. ??  Don't know that abbreviation.  If you're doing the struts, then I would replace all the suspension bushings, and check that all your links are tight.

Lower Control Arm.

Take it to a dealer, have them do the recall and replace all that was damaged when your ball joint snapped.

I have the KYB AGX's on my car and love them.  I have them paired with Eibach pro kit.

Click of a dial or screwdriver.  Pretty easy, even DT can figure it out.   Grin

I just discovered I kinda have a similiar problem, but I don't think it is a control arm ball joint.  I know I have a bad upper ball joint, but when I get under it and bump everything with my palm, I think it's comming from the upper part of the strut or something else deeper inside.  The upper ball joint doesn't squeak yet.
