Amp Peaking
« on: February 22, 2007, 01:52:39 AM »

Well.. I just got a new Amp and Deck for my car to replace the old one. Now the amp keeps peaking and cant put out any power. Could it be that the amp is drawing too much from the battery and it needs a CAP of what

Make sure its grounded very well. That's always a problem.. for cutting out and quieting down.

Get a better amp  Grin

Seriously, check your gains first.  If that doesn't solve it, check wiring.

CAPS are USELESS!

My gains are turned to zero and it still peaks. Everything is hooked up. Im running a crap 2ch Amp right now. The only problem I have is that the deck hums with the engine and the hum revs with the engine

You have a bad ground from your amp or you have a bad internal ground on your deck.

What kind of RCA's are you using

Ones that came with the Amp Kit. Dad says it could be a power conditioning issue. The ground for the deck is where the ground for the stock was and the ground for the amp is where the ground for the stock amp was

I just installed a 4 channel, it sounds great, no cutting out but I do have the whine from the charging system due to an internal grounding problem with my pioneer deck.  (apparently they are notorious for this problem)  you might see if you can find info on problems people have with the deck you have.

Also if you are running all 4 speakers off a 2 channel amp... yeah, you might be drawing too much, especially for a economy (thats the nice word for cheap) amp.

I get the hum with just using two speakers... so yea. I just leave it really low and listen to all 4.. I never had a problem with Pioneer's but oh well.

Im getting a new amp tomorrow so we will see what happens

Found out what was wrong. The amp I had was bad. Im pickign up a Pioneer 6200F

600w MAX - 60 RMS 4ch

So that will be powering my Speakers. And then when I have the money, I will be picking up a 10" or 12" Clarion Sub and Amp

And then I will replace my Speakers with Boston Acoustic most likley
