SNOW!
« on: February 13, 2007, 08:28:20 PM »

This weather here in Indiana totally sucks!  I was wondering how the venge responds to deep snow?  I know with my low profile American racing rims and radials, the tires spin VERY easily...  But I haven't driven in anything deep.   I just though I might look for a little advice before I go get myself stuck Grin.

it responds like a snow plow, lol. I've never been in anything real deep, but I know from experience that all it will do is push the snow out from in front of ya—and ram it into the radiator. So yeah, I wouldn't go out into anything over a few inches or so. I live in SC and the one or two times we've actually gotten enuff to get over the bumper that's exactly what it did. (believe me, even with our low cars that's a hard task in SC, but there is usually a high spot or 2. lol)

well, is a radiator full of snow a really bad thing?

it would just melt away and provide a little extra cooling Wink

My main concern was ramming the engine compartment full of snow.

The thing is, the venge is my only car.  So if It can be done...... I'm gonna do it. Cheesy

Cheesy same here, on the only car thing.

as far as the engine compartment goes, i donno. i don't have any experience with that, but i'm sure one of our northern members will be able to give advise on that. altho, i would be wary if you have a bottom feeding CAI.

I just ordered a bottom-feeding cai, but I planned on leaving it off for the winter months.  What I might do is just put the cone filter on the stock tube.  Either that or mod the stock tube to attach to the upper piece of the CAI.  That way I can get a nice long and somewhat low intake without hydro-locking my car.

I have dry traction tires only.  It sucks in snow.  But I live right by the highway, and my work is right off the highway.  So I can deal.

I drove the 95 Sebring in the winter here in Canada and I think it's fine and I don't do snow.  We had snow tires on it and I never had a problem with it.  We don't drive it in the winter anymore just due to the fact what winters do to cars.  It's only seen 2 I think in it's life..lol.

I'm in central Iowa and if you don't have snow tires it will be like a pig on ice.I have a extra set of wheels and tires for winter driving(studded tires by the way).

I like how this is posted in the "problems" section. lol It's not a problem here, it's a way of life.  Cheesy

I got All-season tires here.. The snow won't come up from under and in your engine bay no matter how deep the snow is. But it will plow your rad, and that is not a good thing.. don't trust me?? Go take a smell of the burning snow in front after you plow abit..  Embarrassed.. It does not smell pleasant.

I can't say much about deep snow, but up to a few inches this car rocks in the snow.  Have never *knock on wood* spun the old girl out.  I always knew what it was gonna do and responds well to quick corrections.

I find it is heavy in the back. (might be because of my rear tires)... and it doesn't turn that good so you cant pull very sharp ebrakes because it doesnt counter steer as well..

But thats compared to my last car which weighed 400 pounds less. lol

Ummm....how does snow burn....Its water.  And aside from the smell I don't see how it would hurt the car any.

touché...    All I can say from experience is that my car started to over heat when the rad was plowing snow...

You need airflow through the rad regardless if it's warm or cold  temps. outside. The snow won't melt fast enough and you will over heat.
