AutoTransmission Leak, How much work is it to drop the transmission?
« on: January 16, 2007, 12:24:38 PM »

I have a leak in my tranny and looks like to fix it I'll have to remove the tranny. How much work is this and do I need any special tools.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Have you actually seen where the leak is coming from? I would think if its just a pan seal, that you would only have to remove the pan for repair. Its just a thought, to save you some time, and I am by no means a transmission expert. Please someone correct me if I am wrong.  Grin

Anyhoo, welcome to ASOG!

Sorry for the slow response, but I'm having trouble accessing this forum site.

The fluid is leaking out of a cover between the transmission and the motor, not the tranny oil pan.

Thanks for the reply.

This is on my 95 Avenger, 420A, F4AC1 Tranny.

Most likely it's the front pump seal. Mine just blew and it's blowing out oil faster than I can fill it. If you're still driving it, better watch it because it might get real bad and you'll lose all the oil while driving. It's not that hard to drop a tranny just a lot of labor. But I wouldn't suggest it unless you're mechanically inclined. I'm gonna have mine rebuilt by Roger Reynolds I think I might be lucky to have a guy like him relatively close to me.
