The Wide World of Rubber.....
« on: January 17, 2007, 06:26:23 AM »

I'm looking to get some new rubber for my 16" factory alloys.  I have been leaning toward the General Tire Exclaim UHP...

My Question is which size should I go with?  I think I narrowed it down to the following:

205/55-16
205/50-16
215/55-16

Which size would be the best for the car without messing up the speedo?  They are all about the same price so that wouldn't matter at all.

was stock a 50 or 55 series tire? i think it was a 55, thats the one you should go with bet either way the speedo will only be off by a couple mph if at all. nothing to get bent out of shape about

I believe the 205/55 is the factory tire size.  Would the different dimension help at all?

you've got to MAJORLY change your wheel size in order to mess up your speedo by a noticable amount (5+/-)

I have those tires and I love em. The only issues people seem to have with them is a complaint about the sidewall being too soft but I have no problems.

I agree with the filled wheel well idea.  If I had the money, these would occupy that space.

i just got the kuhmos on the stock 17in rims but when i bought the car it had some expensive Pirelli tires but the previous owner prolly tore them up before he got ride of the car so they didnt have much rubber left on them.. soo it wasnt very long before i had to downgrade to kuhmos but i like them.. i have had the kuhmos for about 10,000 miles and they still look pretty good.. plus they look kool too..  Grin Grin

yeah, that or some good calculations. you can get w/in a half an inch or so, easy. i've got 18s and my tire height is only about .5" or so taller than stock… haven't really noticed any change in speedo (of course, i think mine has been off since i've had the car,  Smiley)

Yeah, I'm not too worried about the speedo, i just want the best performance out of the size.  I know wider is better, just seeing if that extra 10 millimeters is worth it.
