I do love the VTEC. My 2.4 L puts out 200 hp at 6800 rpms. The S2000 2.2 L needs to rev up to almost 8000 rpms I think. They sound amazing too, especially with intake and exhaust mods (my friend has one with the mods, and it runs like crazy!)

vtec sucks.. VVTL and mivec are much much better technologies..

really.. its just another cam..

and why doesn't honda do that with all their engines you ask..

because engines with little to no low rpm torque isn't a great motovator.

it's easy to make 240hp outta 2L with no turbo.. just have to spin the crap out of it..

(torque * rpm) / 5250

notice the rpm part.. make 150ft-lbs of torque at 8000 rpm.. you get 240hp.... or 126lb-ft at 10,000rpm.. 240hp.. or..  90ft-lbs at 14,000 rpm... still 240hp..

BIG DEAL..

thing with the s2000.. unless you have the engine on full boil all the time.. it's a gutless wonder.. worse than the 420a.

total area under the hp line.. THAT is what matters.. peak hp numbers are meaningless, unless put into context.

you gotta point there. who cares if you have 300hp if you have to be revved to something like 9000rpms or higher just to get it. you'll rarely ever see/feel it.

yeah my uncle told me that he has a buddy, who bought a s2000 and sold it 2months later because he didnt like it due to low power.  The problem is that the guy lives in Washington, DC and with all that traffic he wasn't able to pretty much rev up the engine to needed high RPMs to give him satisfactory power.

so you WANT the ricers to look extra cool in their 4 dr civics. think about grandma passing you while giving you the bird with a big smile on her face. Or that annoying person who nevers lets anyone pass them and does 10 miles under the speed limit HAVING the power to do the SL but not.
