let's put it this way, you can tell i'm intelligent (a little arrogant but still). My fellow "grunts" can tell I'm intelligent. I'm usually the first one that's asked to identify a part or i'm the first second-opinion (not one wise crack about my own car problems. lol. they aren't what i'm the most knowledgable about). I've fixed or found solutions to ALOT of the things there at that store. I'm qualified to actually be an assistant store manager (first assistant). However, when your store manager listens more to his assistant manager than his own instinct and his assistant manager hates you, unless you get a store transfer (i don't back down so i stay) you don't go anywhere in that situation.
Advance is a store that is notorious for anyone over 8 months of experience being promoted to A management level of some sort. I've been there for two long years. Our store isn't modelled after any particular store so all the planograms and inventory controls are greatly off and it's up to the store to try and adjust.
I was going through with the RF gun checking maxi's on items that were falling off the shelf so i could reduce the maxi and i ran across the lucas oil stabilizer. well, we kept selling out of it and it said that we had 52 on hand with a maxi of 48. i simple upped the maxi by one case (60) because i knew that would be sufficient to keep us stocked on it. I couldn't adjust the inventory because our DM had forbid it and any that did any negative inventory adjustments would be written up. after truck came in we found THREE cases of Lucas that someone had actually hidden under a bunch of discontinued $h!t so I got in trouble and the (assistant) store manager took away my ability to sign into the RF gun because someone before me didn't properly put the Lucas in overstock.
Well, the old Commercial Manager that used to work at my store is an O'Reillys store manager and has been offering me a job at $2 more an hour with 40 hours a week for a few months now because he knows that I can get the job done and saw how she (assistant) treated me and talked about me to the other managers.
So I took it. In two or less weeks I will be an O'Reillys employee instead of Advance. What's great is that I'm mainly Irish. lol
*..... and the clouds parted with a single golden ray of light beaming down onto one individual in the sea of many. As his smiling green eyes turned skyward to meet the single ray of light in the gloom surrounding his fellow man, he was lifted high above all as an omnipotent glow began to surround him and his voice became a thundering call for all to hear. Opening his mouth, he voiced his patient wisdom to all..........*
Any of the belts from NAPA are bad quality. I put a set of accessory belts from NAPA on and all they did was squeel so I kept tightening them bit by bit and they just shredded. Also my mechanic told me NEVER to use a timing belt from NAPA because they are unreliable and will shred/break.

lol, lemme guess, he told u this after it happened? sorry i had to.
anyway umm....i know what u mean about being treated the way u do. see..my job requires absolutely NO knowledge...well.except for where things go. so i never have those problems. i get no brain stimulation, so when i do it, im always thinking of ways to improve efficiency and power of my car. thats forty hours a week .
to each their own I have been using NAPA belts all my life (made by gates ya know) and never had a problem. You do have to adjust the tension, a week or so after you put them because they will stretch.
I've had different experiences with different stores, I think it depends on where you go. I was in Tulsa a few weeks ago and the Advance Auto was awesome. I had good service at most Autozone's, but the fuel injectors sucked. Most O'Reily's I've been to have mostly dumb rednecks. Got good service at NAPA so far. Can't say who's best really, I kinda agree w/ Shiano.
I have had great luck with help at NAPA and Autozone. The guys at Pep Boys tried to sell my wife a bunch of crap (it was like they were on comission or something) when she just needed an air filter. They wanted her to replace everything under the hood! Luckily she called me and I let her know that she just needed the damned air filter, and that a tune up was not needed until 90K miles (she was at 70K). She ended up going to NAPA, and they didn't give her any crap. I was out of town that weekend, so she took the initiative to pick up the filter...I would normally do this myself to keep her from getting stuff that isn't needed.
Good man! I have actually had a lady call and I could hear her husband in the background watching the game, barking commands at her while she tried to order a part for him. Finally I said, "Ma'am, no offense meant by this but we both know you have no clue what you are doing." She happily agreed. So I said "Tell your lazy ass husband to put down his beer and get on the phone if he wants the right parts, because if he comes back because they are wrong, I am not letting him return them."
He got on the phone after that. It was a less than pleasant conversation.
