so my mechanic father just got a 98 a604 tranny in and his work is letting him have it. my tranny is fine, but we decided to take the used one and rebuild it. we want to try and "bullet-proof " this thing and NO, i'm not buying anything from exile, so i'd like anyone here that knows about this stuff to make a list of what we should do to it... i figure my list so far should be:
high stall torque converter
lightweight flywheel
limited slip differential
weld that pin that always breaks through the transfer case
and ideas? part numbers and internet stores http: addresses that carry em?
what shift kit should i get?
i plan on keeping the venge when it's second tranny dies so this will be the replacement tranny for it.
i am putting a tranny cooler on this spring, as well as the stratus gears.

Rezlo for the high stall torque convertor ... I got my stuff from level 10 transmission ... They had a high performance set ... Limited slip was from Quiffe If I remeber right ...

yeah quaife makes one for the v6 but it is expensive

How much are you talking about spending? I sent mine to Hannibal Transmission. $1200 later I really do have a bulletproof tranny. He re-sealed everything and put all new bearings in along with all the new upgrades for the a604. He welded and put some kinda retaining rings on the pin. He also found a hairline crack in the casing that wasnt even leaking. Plus, he installed his roadrage gears, I'm not sure of the ratio, but boy what a difference, stock for stock i'll beat any avenger out there. I recieved it all cleaned and freshly painted. The torque converter also got rebuilt which is a must when you rebuild a transmission. The new transmissionm should probably hold up to about 350hp/375lb-ft of torque. Which is more than the 2.5 or 3.0 will ever see. I highly reccomend giving him a call.
