BEWARE OF VALVE COVER REPLACEMENT!!!
« on: December 23, 2006, 07:00:02 PM »

I apologize to those with dial up.

the following is designed to make sure you are not having the problem I am having (due to the previous owner)

INCORRECT VALVE COVER

CORRECT VALVE COVER

Three things to watch out for are

A: The return line into your intake tube will be pointed downward instead of upward when looking straight down at the valve cover.

B: Along the back of the valve cover where it mounts to the head, there will be a "ridge" or very noticeable bump between the oil cap and the ignition coil (not the top, BEHIND the top)

C: ALL TRUE AVENGER/SEBRING/ECLIPSE 420A VALVE COVERS HAVE DOHC 2.0L 16 VALVE CLEARY VISIBLE ON THEM. NONE OF THE A/S/E COVERS CAME WITH A "BLANK" FACE.

If you have one of these incorrect valve covers, simply follow the guidelines above when trying to acquire the correct one.
If you do not know whether you have an incorrect one or not, simply take off your plug wire (only one is required) and try to take out THAT spark plug. you won't be able to because the holes don't properly line up on the heads. If you keep that cover you will have to REMOVE YOUR VALVE COVER EVERY TIME to change your plugs.

The culprit vehicle is a 1st Gen Neon with the DOHC engine. If you can not tell by looking at the engine, look at the 8th character of the VIN. It will be a letter "Y". If by chance, it is a letter "C" this is the SOHC. You have nothing to fear. The SOHC cover WILL NOT FIT AT ALL.

I hope this is helpful to at least one person.

ahem. gentlemen, esteemed colleagues, fellow BS'ers we still have to address the spark plug clearance issue. and this is to let others know how to NOT get the wrong cover.

Modifications are later!  Grin

UPDATE!! Correct Cover now in place  Grin Grin Grin

Slight increase in performance (based on feel), oddly enough. anyhoo. the comparison pics. pay CLOSE F**KING ATTENTION IF YOU'RE A NOOB. If you're not and feel you are of elite status PAY EVEN MORE ATTENTION!!!!!!!!

ok. on to the freak show.

First, the most obvious. Class, can you tell me what's the difference between these two:

Ok, now a small detail spot that i actually covered earlier in the thread (and year).
A is correct, B is not.

A

B

See the difference (pcv valve NOT an option smart ass)

Now for one that's a liiiiiiiitle harder to see (unless your a perfectionist)
A

B

That's my pinky. The wall is closer to the Spark plug cylinder (for your plug wire) in B than it is in A, resulting in the following pic.

Just a little FYI for those who don't know what you're looking at:
YOUR CYLINDER HEAD! You should not see anything except the INSIDE of the cylinder wall for the spark plug. The plugs you see in there are new. I had to change them. I had to REMOVE the valve cover to do so. I almost threw it in the road when i went to put it back on because the gasket would not stay in.

part numbers:
VS50455R  DOHC Neon
VS50455R  2.0L Avenger

Same part number but NOT same fitment. Trust me. If you don't, then trust me. Either way, you're going to have to trust me on this so get over it and accept it.

Just remember, if a part you're putting on was NEVER designed for your vehicle, make sure there are NOOOOOOOOO problems when you install it. The problem you have will be alot bigger to the person who gets the car after you: You had the idea, so you know what fixes it. They're in the dark... azz. lol. So if you put something on, knowing it will cause problems later and get rid of the car for that reason,

I will personally hunt you down,

and pee on your tire.

Now do you really want me to do that?
