It's just a way to show appreciation for something (karma) or disapprovement of something (smite). Smiting takes away karma, so use it sparingly and meaningfully. Not that any of that really matters, but it may make ppl think b4 taking advice from someone—who otherwise might give good advise—so please only smite when necessary.
