in space...everything changes...there's no air..so no friction..there's continuous motion unless the object in motion is obstructed by some force...so say ur moving at 90 mph...u know how on the earth ur car eventually stops, not in space...it'll go 90mph till it hits a gravity field powerful enough to deflect it. well..any object in space will produce a gravity field that will affect it and depending on how strong the field is...that determines how much the direction will change. due to its initial speed, unless the object is directly in its path, it might just change direction w/o losing speed. (unless it touches something, speed will remain the same). velocity however will be changed (change in direction). anyway with the magnets...same situation...the magnets stop themselves...if however u get a system that can reach a particular speed and then remove the magnets...in space..it will move at that speed until it is obstructed. the reason the magnets stop themselves is that...an artificial "gravitational" field is created...or an electromagnetic field and this creates forces in directions opposite to the motion of the magnets that are supposed to be moving. therefore no motion unless ur moving it. a a matter of fact it puts up a bit of resistance as ur trying to move it. the circle idea, even though its pretty neat, unlike the theory that its endless..it really isnt....its just that the end is the beginning so it starts all over after every revolution. starting over would mean...ok remove that "secret" part again...do u wanna be removing that part so often...then the motor would be run by u..it gets more involved..but i got class...indulge.

So why not create some energy Plant is space, and have feed cables?  I understand the energy plant would have to revolve with the earth and blah blah.  But wouldn't that make some sense?

And before I get flamed for that, Keep in mind that NASA has determined a space elevator as a legitimate means for space travel.

oh yeah, i almost forgot about this post. so say we have these magnets set up in such a fashion as to produce perpetual motion. due to the fact that the magnet will be applying a constant force, the speed will just keep increasing. there is a small difference between such a setup on earth and one in space. there's gravity and air damping on earth, none in space. this object on the earth could reach really high speeds with rotational up to near the speed of light....theoretically. due to centrifugal forces this material would fall apart waaay before it moved as fast. in space, theoretically, this mass would keep going till it reached the speed of light or just shy of it. keep in mind that as its speed increases, the object is in a sense expanding. so by the time it got to the speed of light..the object will start to release light particles and will disperse wholly into light particles. ok, zero point energy, im not sure if this is what he's talking about cuz i ve never heard it referred to as such, but 0 k, absolute zero, another boundary condition. all motion stops...all matter is in the solid state. hydrogen oxygen and all those other gases are solid. and this is really cold...when i say cold...i mean...light freezes...or light stops..light doesnt move. completely stops...objects that dont normally conduct electricity gain conductivity as this point is approached..of course until u reach this point..then nothing moves..electricity stops too..so..there u go. as for anti matter, look..the universe is made up of two things..matter and energy, its easy converting matter to energy, but its a bitch converting it back. did u know that the human body contains as much energy as 256 million gallons of gasoline? let me let u wonder for a while and i'll explain later...there's a chart that shows the comparison. im not that familiar with anti matter as with everything else. also something to throw in...u may not believe it cuz u really cant see it..but..wherever there is heat..there is light...the higher the concentration of heat, the higher the concentration of visible light. although it hasnt been scientifically proven to my knowledge. i believe every piece of matter, about the size of sub-atomic particles, there are light particles. these particles are just waiting for the opportune moment to acquire enough energy to disperse with the speed of ..u guessed it..light. by they way, light is just the result of rapid oxidation which as i had said earlier requires a high concentration of heat. think of a burning object. there's so much more..but i'l do it piece by piece..more interesting that way, plus i get questions Grin

instead of just bashing my idea thank you for actually putting forth the effort of actually giving a physics lesson Bringit.

I actually want to try and build this. the only problem is finding the magnets and a solid way of securing them (no not duct tape or j-b weld. at least not the duct tape.). the bearing, shaft, and disc table are easy fixes.

does anyone know where i can get alot of the same size magnets about 1/2 inch thick and 4 1 inch thick? a website is ok.

i like seeing things in motion.

btw, i like Full Metal Alchemist  Grin

alchemists are ultra cool  Cool. course shiano, its all about logic. with ur device w/ proper dimensions and minor tweak and a lil out of phase addition, u could have something. check ebay, and ur best bet is neodymium magnets...careful tho..they WILL break ur fingers if u play w/ em in the wrong way.
and of course!!..who doesnt dig anime??
