Carpet Dye
« on: April 18, 2008, 08:37:50 PM »

My carpet is tan and it is very stained. I am looking into dying it black. Has anybody succesfully dyed their interior carpet? If so, what did you use, where did you get it, what was the price?

Allright here's what i have to say. it's possible and will prolly turn out great! Hell ritt dye, you know the boxes..I have used that to dye a plastic gastank and shrouds for my 250r. If it works on that, and makes it look great, then carpet should be no problem!

It CAN work BUT the dye is on the surface of the carpet it also seems to come off if it gets wet ... The spray on dye is $8 a can we used 8 cans to do the carpet ...new carpetting is really not that expensive ...

i'd weigh the price of the new carpet against the price of the dye. If the price for the dye is more than half that of the new carpet, just go ahead and get the new carpet.

Well, the dyes 5 buck a box, I would need 5 boxes at the most, which makes 25 dollars, quite less than a new carpet.

If your set on dying, at least go grab you some gray carpet at the j/y. Dying gray carpet black will be much easier than dying a much lighter color such as tan.

to me, $60 for the color you need, done professionally [so you can yell at someone else], that new carpet scent.
