front end knock
« on: December 02, 2006, 12:58:03 AM »

My front end makes a sharp knock over bumps. I think it is on the driver side. It might be a strut mount or bushing but It was just fixed so I was thinking the universal joint. It also knocks when i brake and accelerate like in a jumping motion.. (ie: brake, gas, brake, gas, brake, gas)

Can anyone help me target this?

EXACT thing happened to me, it was a Stabilizer Link rod.  It's looks like this

It attaches from the stabilizer bar to the shock clevis (the bottom part that your strut fits in)

Check that out.  It's a pretty cheap part.

AKA, Idler arms, thats the name I'm familiar with, I didn't suspect they would make that much of a noise, because it is a pretty hard knock.

Did you check them out yet?  That was my problem and it was a loud knock.  The first time they did it I thought I hit something.

Haven't checked yet... Its kinda hard to check with a bunch of snow build up under the car and 6-8" of snow on the ground up here.

bring it to a dealer, they fix it at no cost. it is a one time repair.

close..it varies by dealer. so if one won't do it go to another or raise hell. and they usually will only recall it if the ball joint is out of tolerance. some are more willing then others to replace it. and it's a lifetime recall, in the US at least. not sure on canada. they did not redesign the ball joints, they are the same and will eventually wear and fail like the originals.
