Hi first time here having troubles with my 97 Avenger ES 2.5L V6. It is leaking coolant from both ends from the pipe in the middle (leaking from red circled areas) and I am having a hell of a time trying to get the pipe out to replace the seals, Basicly the distributor is blocking some bolts I need to removed to take the whole water pump assembly off so I can remove the pipe, There are 2 screws on the distributor that I removed but it will not come off likes its still attached somewhere, I only see 2 bolts tho that i took off. Basicly can someone help me and tell me how to get the whole pump assembly off so I can replace the pipe comeing out the back of the water pump! Sorry im a total car noobie lol any advice would be a HUGE help! Heres a pic
Hey, just from looking at your pic, it looks like you valve cover seals at the spark plug tubes are leaking oil down onto your plugs. Easy to see from the pic angle. Don't know if you have to take the heads off for your original prob, but if you do, just buy the head gasket set and you should be good to go. Car should run alot better afterwards. Good luck..........and PS buy a Haynes and a Chilton manual, they are a great help for me. We will help you all we can too.

i agree about the manuals and i also saw the oil leaking into your plugs. now if you do have to pull the heads you have to get new head sets anyway cause you cant reuse the old stuff however i think you should replace the head gaskets while youre workin on it anyway, you know kill two birds with one stone. sorry tho, im not sure bout your original prob
you may have to pull the water pump off. the only thing sealing that end is an o-ring that sits on the end of the coolant pipe and slides into the water pump. changing the water pump takes some time and if you go that route there are some other things you should do along the way. i don't know how to get the seal off of the other end of the pipe, but you don't need to take the heads off.
While your at it, replace your timing belt and EGR valve, and clean out your upper and lower intake manifolds by dipping them in a vat of diesel or gasoline. I have done this with a cleaning vat solution and it didn't work, but I'm sure those two would clean them.
sweet figured out how to get the distributor off, lil hammer action did the trick.. as far as replaceing the lil rubber O rings on that pipe and 2 other small o rings that lead to the heater and 2 more small metal gaskets for the water pump those little things cost 60 fuckin dollars from the dodge dealership because no where else has them... screw dodge
At least fix that one valve cover & check the other. Consider replacing the EGR, cleaning out the carbon from the intake plenum, replacing the : TPS, IAC valve, MAP sensor, IAT sensor, spark plugs, plug wires, coolant temp. sensor. I did all that and my car ran alot better. I had to replace one sensor before, so I decided to go ahead and do a few others too.
