No A/C....more power?
« on: November 19, 2006, 05:57:39 AM »

If I chose to take out my A/C compressor w/ all components, would that give any power to the engine by not having to turn that pulley too?  Even when the A/C is not engaged it still turns the pulley right? So w/ no belt, no pulley, no heavy A/C compressor or components, would I or not feel any difference? I think it would almost be like having a lightweight UDP, but instead your completely losing on pulley.  I really don't even use my A/C anyway...except when I have to go on long trips w/ my woman.  I'm also not interested with resale value (of having or not having A/C) either because I'm keeping the car.

I have the four cylinder, and I removed all my A/C components (I got pissed and ripped off a line, that led me to finish the job).  The gain is minimal, but it's still there.

Mod List.  Um WAY too many to fit on here.  But the engine can handle about 800HP

You could also think about it like this: if you had no A/C, you wouldn't need half of your UDP, so your aftermarket lightweight UDP would be even lighter.  I'm sure you could cut off half your UDP, if you already cut out your A/C.  Tell me I'm crazy for thinking like that.

That's not what I meant.  I mean, 1 side of the pulley runs one belt (A/C), the other side runs the rest.  I thought about cutting off the side you don't need to the A/C (not changing diameter).  The pulley is made to run 2 belts side by side, right? so machine off the "side" you don't need.

So if your lightweight pulley was even lighter, wouldn't it be even better? especially if you didn't need the other pulley side for the A/C.

your absolutely right... u can only mess around with parts so much before they cant handle load anymore..as long as u do ur calculations u  should know how much load u can remove..as for how u do that...and thats a LOTTA work.

Just another way of saying "structural integrity" right.  I understand what you're saying, but if you have no A/C it might be worth a shot.  Maybe one of us should buy two of these "cheap" pulleys off ebay and use one as an experimental "Guinea pig".

yeah, the main gain you get out of pullin out the a/c would be droppin some weight. they say that 100lbs is 1/10 of a second, every lil bit helps as far as im concerned Grin

Did you cut out your A/C? Did you feel the difference? Do you also have a lightweight UDP? Now think about cutting off the side of the pulley you don't use of the UDP.
