lowering car ... trim bump stops?
« on: October 20, 2006, 08:42:58 PM »

Ok so thanks to asog I was made aware that the goldline springs were too much of a drop for my v6 venge. so i got the suspension techniques springs, which have been verified by members here to be a good investment. I'm told  by the company they will settle in at 1.5" to 1.75" on my car. I'm thinking of installing soon, but the instructions that came with my Goldline springs recommend on the v6 venge to trim an inch and a half off the top of the bump-stops in the front end. Now call me crazy, but if I do that, isn't that gonna leave too much play in the front end verticle suspension? Anyone ever trim these? If so any damage because of it? I was looking for polyurethane bump stops but dont know the proper part number or who has em. I bought kyb agx shocks and an ingalls camber kit front and rear. Any suggestions? are the shocks good enough? Sorry for all the questions. Huh

first off, i say good job on your researching.. kinda..

who ever told you spring/suspension  tech were good springs is an idot. .. they suck and after a few months they will sag another 1/2 inch or more.the companys not going to tell you that b/c then u wont buy from them.. so i would suggst to sell them.. and goldlines are bad.. um those are eichbac, and they are proven to be some of the best springs out there.. if they were crap, they wouldnt have a warrnty agains sagging.....go with the gold lines if u want a good ride and no worries about ur car gradually saggin...you can get gold lines for 1" and 1.5" ..
and as for the AGX, yes, those are very good, b/c they r designed for lowering, i used them b4 i went to air..
DO NOT trim you bump stops... get new ones if u have to but you dont need to trim or get new ones...excrement will go everywhere, it will be noisy and ur handeling wil suck..
ull like the way she sits and handles at 1.5 inch drop...

cut the excrement out of them, who cares. if your worried bout ride quality dont lower your car, i cut my bumpstops, when i had eibach springs(like it said to in the instructions) and it didnt make a difference in ride quality.

right, it won't matter. bumpstops are there to cushion the shock body if you bottom it out. they 'recommend' trimming some off since you'll have less shock travel. i didn't cut mine and it rides fine.

Boy are you a TOOL .... The Suspension Techs are some of the BEST riding handling springs out there MADE for the Veng FAR FAR better then the Goldlines that he ORIGINALLY bought ... Goldlines are Eclipse springs and will settle out to OVER a 3" drop on a V6 ... SEARCH over on ASEC for the picture of them on a V6 Also go over to ASEC and read the Sticky on lowering while you are at it

Back to the original question look at the bumpstops cut the botton (smallest) bump/knob off you'll be golden ... With the S/T springs the AGX's are a good choice ... Get the Standard size ones not the shorter shaft ones

thanx bad venge... you can f off..
i agree your correct, i overlooked the fact this is for a v6 and not an i4...and the springs hes going to use are for thev6..
knowing in the past ppl used i4 springs for v6s, which is what i thought he was doing and thats why i said they suck and dont use them...
and i was also under the impression that the springs he was talking about were the ebay knock offs springline or some crap...
sooooory...dam

I used Eibach pro springs and AGX struts when I first lowered my car in 98.  It sat perfect.  Just trimmed the bum stops a little.  Last year, I put in a fresh new set of Eibach springs and AGX struts, and the car sits almost 1 inch lower then before.  Did they change the design or spring rate?  I had to roll my fenders to keep my tires in one piece.  Same tires and rims btw.

I thought they were the Venge springs.  I got them at such a fine price, I must have been blinded.  I think I paid 160 for the set brand new from summit.  I think it was summit.  I might have to look that one up cause now im curious.  The funny thing is when I had the old ones out and the new ones side by side.  The new ones were taller.  I figured the old ones were settled.  Maybe they had lower spring rates.  Looks bad as hell, just don't hit a bump or dip in the road.   Wink  They'll have to do cause i'm not getting any more.

No way.  I wonder if I call them, if they'll do something for me.
