I use Mobil 1 high mileage 5w-30 and a fram oil filter. I wanted to use a diff filter but i needed the extra money for some other lil things to get my avenger going again.

97 - No street racing until you do your next oil change

I'm not sure about the 420a's but on the 6g73 i found that a K&N oil filter actually had me a little worried. Around 100 mph, the oil pressure would fluctuate a little between 80% and 95% on the normal part of the gauge. I didn't like the fact that it got that close to an 'above normal' status at only 100 mph. 130 mph, sure, i can see it being that high. At idle, it was actually lower on the oil pressure than my previous filter.

When i put the Purolator Pure One filter back on, the pressure hung *just* under the norm mark at idle, and at 100+ mph [yes +], it gave a steady reading starting at 80% and increased slightly when i got noticeably over 100 mph.

The Wix filter [another really good brand] gave the same results, but costs me alot more. You could have easily put on a Pure One [which IS designed to handle synthetics easily] or a Wix and still have come out cheaper than a K&N and barely cost more than a Fram.

Wix makes them every once in awhile. It's usually Fram. Whichever company offers the hightest bid is the one that makes Dodge's Mopar filters. Just because a car company's name is on a product, doesn't mean that it comes from 1 single dedicated manufacturer. GP Sorenson IAC's are made at the same plant that the ones for Ford are.

Regardless who makes them, it's the design that counts. And I get them for 4 bux each at my local dealership.

Daes, you are right on the money, I have seen inside all the major brands. Fram has a paper end cap and less filter media...If they manufacture any for OEMs...which Shi was the first one I have heard say that after being in the car business for 32 years...the fram design is definitly only in the orange cans.

On the Cummins Dodge Rams the most common failure through out the 90's was the owner installed fram coming apart and plugging the saddle jets and grenading the piston for that hole.  Mopars' were made by Fleetgard. Hastings and Wix make Mopar for pass cars.
