2k idle, cel on
« on: October 07, 2006, 03:49:04 AM »

About 2.5 weeks after I installed my cold air intake my engine began to idle at 2k and the CEL was on. I looked around but failed to find anything other than cleaning the throttle body. Some buddies said that because I removed my cat the o2 sensors will read differently. Another possibility could be that I need to get the car tuned, but I am unsure.

Any advice?

sounds more like a vacuum leak. try to get the cel scanned to narrow it down. doubt it is the o2 sensor, they are before the cat. at least on the v6, not sure on the i4.

I4 has one before and after the Cat.  But I agree with the Vacuum leak.  Check the elbow hose on top of your TB, those have a tendency to crack and leak.

Mod List.  Um WAY too many to fit on here.  But the engine can handle about 800HP

I checked the elbow hose and its fine but there is a crack in the PCV hose. When I turn accessories on like the fan and other electrical crap the rpm goes down.

Fix the hose see if that's the issue.  Does it do it constantly or does it rise for just a bit and then drop.  If it only rises a bit it's the engine reacting to more power draw and stabilizing itself

vac leak.. does the idle ever go down or i is constant 2k all the time? ive seen EGRs go bad and hod it at bout 1.5k..so 2k may not b that far out .. also u said  u were messin by the throttle body. check that vac line and check to see if the cable s ok. mayb theres . what CEL do you get? i doubt the pcv will cause a 2k rpm but check it for pice of mind..

When I start the car it shoots up to 2.5-3k then goes back to 1.2k and slowly increases RPM to 2k and stays there. The throttle cable is fine, and I don't have a scan tool and nothing is open today so I cant check it out at a shop. Sad

i noticed no one said anything about fuel pump, but the vacuum leak would be the first thought. check the pump also, even though this doesnt happen often, its a rare possibility and i dont doubt it. good luck.
