I understand MSD will rebuild a used burt-out box if shipped back to them. I also understand it is cheaper than buying a whole new MSD module. I have 2, and 1 is no good anymore. It burnt out after a year or so, is that bad timing for their life span?
As long as you keep it away from any direct heat sources like the exhaust manifolds or headers. The units themselves don't really have a specific life span but like anything electronic, they can fail. This is actually very rare though.
The main factor that will determine the life of the unit will be the electrical connections and ground connections, maybe you had a bad ground or connection?
