Ok. My tranny is out, my shift kit arrived today, my question is when I get the tranny rebuilt and the kit installed, do I have to flash the computer or no. If I'm supposed to flash it what happens if I don't. Just any info would be appreciated.
you don't have to reflash the tcm. you can if you want, it is not necessary. you should disconnect the power to the tcm before you start it up with the new tranny in. since the a604 is an adaptive transmission, you don't want it using the old values and indexes with a new transmission that will respond differently to the one that died. depends on what year the new transmission is, but it may be cheaper to just head to a junkyard and find a newer tcm instead of paying to get yours flashed at teh dealer.
I'm just getting my stock tranny rebuilt. Let me make sure I have this right. Once I put the Tranny back in, I start the car with the tcm unplugged, then plug it in. What difference would a newer tcm make?
no just disconnect the battery for a few minutes. there were firmware updates on the tcm, which had to do with minor improvements chrysler made to the transmission.
i had put in a shift kit a while back and it worked awesome...for a while, then the tcm adapted to it and it shifts pretty grannyish again. is there a way of bumping up the line pressure to a permanently higher value?
