Aftermarket struts + stock springs?
« on: October 22, 2006, 03:21:44 AM »

I just recently notice I have a small leak in my right front strut and at 140k miles I figured it about time to replace them.  I was currently looking at the KYB AGX Adjustable struts because Ive heard they have a good track record with the heavier V6 engine.  I was curious if I can keep my stock springs.  I dont really want to lower my car for 1.) I am already dragging my front end in places with the crappy roads around here and 2.) I dont was to shell out the $200 extra dollars on top of the price of springs for the camber kits.  Is this possible?

if youre not gonna lower your car you shouldnt need a camber kit at all.  now, as far as the struts go, kyb are the best way to go as far as im concerned.  i just bought some from autopartswarehouse and they sent me the wrong ones, so i had to buy them locally and i put them in and my whip drives and rides 100 times better

they will work fine. if you don't plan on lowering it the gr2's will save you some cash.

Ok thanks, I heard the gr2s dont handle the weight of the V6 very well since they were designed for an eclipse?  If that isnt a problem I will go with the gr2s because I dont really need the ability to adjust ride comfort.

exile is not known for great shipping times.

This is going to make me sound stupid but im just now going to school and learning to become a master mechanic an i have no prior knowledge of suspension by buying aftermarket struts and taking it to an automotive shop to have them installed should I do that or should i just wait until i know how to do everything myself?

if you want them in right away then take it to a shop, just know that theyre gonna charge you a lot. shouldnt take them more than an hour tho.  however struts are simple and i learned by doin them myself, if you go that way just remember you need a spring compressor if you have stock springs.
