High Beam Relay
« on: October 24, 2006, 10:50:02 PM »

Hi, I have a 98 venge and my high beams all of a sudden went kaput. I Know the bulbs aren't burnt and the high beam light comes on so I know it must be the relay. But my problem is I can't seem to find this relay. I know it's under the front drivers side somewhere but unsure where. Any help would be appreciated thanks

Under the hood, standing in front of your driver side headlight, remove the black plastic fuse/relay cover (snaps on front/back edge). There are five fuses on the farthest drivers (right) side clumped together in a row, running front to back. The fuse in the middle of the 5 is the high beam fuse, it is a 10amp.

And welcome aboard  Smiley

Fuse I told you about was for the blue high beam light on dash, sorry about that. My Chiltons manual is not showing me a seperate realy for the high beams, but Chiltons suck. I pulled my headlight relay and both high/low went out, so your fine there if you have low beams. I'll keep looking and I'm sure someone on here knows this.

From our friends over at ASEC  Smiley

Undercover car, used in Sudbury Ontario (way up in nowhere) for 4 years, in extreme winter conditions, salt, sand, and snow.

My door sensors no longer work (interior lights no longer come on when I open my doors) cause they completely corroaded away.. copper.. just turns to green powder.

About a month or so ago, I bought new SilverStarâ„¢ headlights and put one in, gave it a try, and... ohmy.gif what!? nothing! Not on EITHER of the lights!? So WTF I put my stock one back in and... BOOM nothing! UH OH

I was mad cause WHY!? Hhehe, HOW!? WHY? The fuse was still good. The switch was still good. The RELAY in the fuse box... was still good! The WIRING looked pretty good. WHAT caused this!? The bulbs were still good!

No-one could figure it out. So today when I had'r in the shop getting some work done, I had them look into it. It appears that there's a relay UNDERNEATH the car, near the horn on the front lower left of the car (in front of the wheel for those who don't know).

The wires going in were completely, COMPLETELY corroaded. What a silly design! The wires were unprotected, and I mean that's the bottom of the car for christ sakes! Suffice to say, it's now apparent that when I was swapping the bulb I must have tugged that wire, and in doing so made the greenpowder, fall apart.. thusly losing the connection.

THe relay was all messed up too unfortunately, so I needed a new one $50. It cost me $75/hr and $50... to have my high beams work again, boy if I don't feel like a blond (and it took one hour).

SO FOR THOSE of you who may be as unlucky with your highbeams as me, let it be known.. check the relay UNDER the car as well, probably the issue.
