Odd question for the sebring owners
« on: August 31, 2006, 02:28:19 PM »

Still being new to the Sebrings, I am noticing little things here and there about my car(98 LXi).  I was low on gas, on the last line, and my fuel light slowly comes on over about 5-10 seconds growing in intensity to the standard amber color.  Then, about  minute later, it slowly fades back to black and goes out.  Is that normal for these cars??  This was the first I've ever seen it come on at all.  Just wondering.

Just a heads up, in case you were unaware. Try to avoid getting that low too often or for too long. Your fuel pump is in the tank and needs a certain level of fuel to keep the pump lubricated and working properly.

I usually don't let it get too low.  I had a 1989 Taurus SHO and it had a pump that needed a certain level to lubricate it and such.   Ford found the cheapest way to addres the issue by making the fuel light come on earlier in later models and re-calibrating the fuel guage so that it showed empty when there was still a lot left.
