Rear Drums to Rotors...
« on: August 05, 2006, 07:24:40 AM »

Well, I'm making a salvage run w/ a main goal of picking up an Eclipse center console, but the thought had crossed my mind to look into rear rotors...

Now, somewhere a while back i believe i read something about taking the rotors/calipers off of a 3000GT and those will work for the Venge.  If this be true, what exactly needs to come off of a 3000GT and what other things would i need to do to put on to the Venge?  Any input before noon tommorow would help me the most, but I can always run back.

well, you really don't need them off of a 3kgt (the gsx, gs, sebring, veng all have the same rear breaks ). What you might have heard is that you can upgrade the front rotors, calipers to the gsx/3kgt for a dual piston caliper and an inch bigger rotor.

now if you are going to swap the drums to rotors this is what you are going to need...
-Caliper assembly with flex hose
-Backing plate with emergency brake components
-Rotors
-pads

there are 2 ways you can do this one is use the emergency brake line from the rotor assembly but it is a peta to feed the line into the car.

the easier way is to moddifi the drum cable to fit into the disk assembly, see here

I did the front swap to dodge stealth rotors and calipers on my daily driver.  It is the best mod i have done to the car to date.  One week later i performed the rear swap from drums to rotors.  Allthough I did notice a slight performance gain, it wasnt nearly as dramatic as when I swapped the fronts.  If your going for looks its nice having the rear disks especially if you have nice wheels to compliment them.  If your going for performance, in my opinion just go with the front swap.

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

I just got back from the salvage yard (a whole hour and 1/2 away) and I am seriously dissapointed...  I found the center consoles and stuff but none of them were fully complete.  I had the sides the center and the face bezel, but i thought i was missing a DIN thingy, but when i went to "check out" they guy wanted $125.00 for it!  So i didn't even ask what the Stealth calipers and rotors were!

So it all got me thinking, what does that stuff cost? What do I need to do the Stealth swap?
Also, what do i all need for a center console swap, I'm not sure about what pieces i was missing.

So if anyone could give me a list of all the parts i woudl need to swap the fronts out, as well as the part i woudl need for the rear (i see that site was very helpful but I couldn't tell what i all needed) and where I could get some of the parts.  Heck, if i can order replacment OEM calipers and rotors and someone has a site i could go to order em, that'd be cool.

Well, Thanks guys.  Hopefully I can get this beast modded!

I got all my stuff from Harrys U Pull It, in Hazelton, PA.  I don’t have the price list with me since I am at work, but heres what I got for somewhere around $100 or less.

2 front rotors and 4 front calipers from a stealth
2 rear rotors and 2 rear calipers from an avenger.

I got 4 front stealth calipers because I needed 2 for my daily driver and 2 for my project.  However, harrys is cheaper than any other junkyard ive ever been to.

whoa, I learn something everyday lol (seriously, i went the past 4 years thinking that not a single avenger came with rear rotors. thought someone told me that a long time ago)

I guess i'll have to look a little harder next time.
