What does this sound like?
« on: August 03, 2006, 05:36:14 PM »

Ok, so driving to work today my car gets stuck in first. this is the A604 auto tranny. 98 avenger es. This transmission only has 25K miles on it because the first was already replaced. So I pull over and put it in reverse. It shudders and dies. Put it in drive, shudders and dies. I let it sit for 5 minutes, starts up and I drive home in first. wont shift past that, tach just revs. Tranny fluid and oil are good. No high temps or leaks. I had my mechanic father inspect the car 2 months ago because I went on a road trip . He changed all fluids except the tranny fluid because it was good.  He says it's either a bad torque converter or a bad torque sensor? But he lives far away so I had it towed to Chrysler (here we go again) Anyone have any ideas? How much do you think it would cost (not under warranty) to repair or replace the torque converter or torque sensor? Damnit.  I JUST paid this car off 2 weeks ago.

could be anything from the input or output sensors, which are cheap..to the torque converter, which isn't. if it is shuddering badly the odds are good it is an internal problem. first thing i would do is pull out the input and output sensors and take a look at them, if any doubt replace them. if they are fine, i'd be looking for a good trans shop. it may have kicked out some transmission codes.

Mechanic called and said that my venom 400 module was faulty. My concern is I didn't even have it switched on so how could it affect shifting? I told him that and he said they uninstalled the module and it drove fine. I really hope he's right.  Anyone EVER hear of anything like this happening? Anyone with the shitty venom module have this problem?
