Need help, I need my car back!
« on: July 08, 2006, 01:23:58 AM »

Okay so my 2.5 kept overheating and no leaks visible anywhere, took it to the local shop and they mentioned that maybe something internal.

Anyways a few weeks back I met a guy who works for a Dodge dealer (and owns an Avenger) he hooked me up with a guy that works at a auto recycling yard. I called this last dude and he sold me a 3.0 for $600 dls with 6 mos warranty.

The dumb asses from the mechanic shop did not test the engine for compression before installing it, once the engine was installed, they discovered there was no compression! So I call this dude who sold me the engine, he said the engine was in a 01 Stratus Coupe last week and it has 20,000 miles on it, "they" (shop/recycler) went over a few tricks like pouring a little bit of oil in the spark plugs to see if compression increases and it didn't!

Today the recycling place agreed to send me another engine (3.0) the question is: Are there any possibilities that engine was good and shop messed it up?

Anything could be possible, i dont understand why they wouldn't test the engine before they sent it out thou. My guess is that something was wrong with the engine and it wasnt the shops fault

Damn here we go again!
Okay so finally another engine was delivered yesterday to the shop. Today the mechanic called me and tells me that he's been asking around and was told by other piers that such swap is not possible!

Because the newer engine (3.0) has crank sensors and some other sensor that I can't remember and the 2.5 does not have those sensors, therefore engine would not run!

Now they don't want to get involved, damn it I hate this dumb asses but I should have known better!!

Any suggestions for southern california shops that would be more aggressive and have more initiative?

We all know that the swap is possible but this pussies would not even try.

Sounds like a lazy shop, or one that is worried about problems they don't want to deal with down the road.  I'd call around and find a shop that will be more willing to do it.  Get someone that has done the swap to give you a write up, (or search for one I'm sure there are a few) that way when you go in, you can show them it's been done and how to do it.

Mod List.  Um WAY too many to fit on here.  But the engine can handle about 800HP

Thanks guys I've called a few regular shops and they won't even try it, then I called performance places and 9 out of 10 work on imports HONDAS & ACURAS, like mitsubishi wasn't an import!

I called SANDMAN's place in IL but they won't return the call. I'd be willing to send the car up there so I don't have to deal with a bunch of limited mechanics!

Okay the shop says the only problem they have is that the 2.5 has the crank and cam sensors inside the tranny and the new 3.0 has the sensors outside the tranny ....has anyone with the 3.0 swap encounter this problem before?

Any suggestions?
