Question about Rear Brakes
« on: July 13, 2006, 04:36:45 PM »

I had two mechanics take a look at my rear brake pads and rotors because I was having squeaking noises for awhile.  One mechanic told me its because bad master cylinder and the master cylinder is not giving enough pressure to the pads.
the other mechanic told me that the pads and the rotors are glazed and that's what's causing the noise.

what should I believe?

I would say pads and rotors is a more likely scenario.  Can you stop ok?  Does your pedal feel mooshey?

I would definately lean toward the pad glazing. Start with the cheapest solution and work your way up!

Definately. It's an easy job on a 'venge or 'bring.

SIDE NOTE:

I actually have to take my TSX to have the pads changed  Embarrassed. The damn caliper bolts won't give, and I f-ed up my lower back trying to loosen them! Now I need to see the dealer AND a chiropractor  Angry.

WHATEVER mechanic told you it was the master brake cylinder should be punched in the mouth for being a sheister. IF it were that it wouldnt make noise, just make stopping almost non existent. He knows it costs more to replace that so he'd probably replace it, charge you a crap load for labor, just to have you come back the next day saying the noise was still there and he'd THEN do the rotors and brakes. Please dont ever go back there. My dad's been a mechanic for over 25 years and he'll say the same thing. If your changing the rotors get drilled slotted and some nice pads (dont use ceramic with those) use raybestos or kevlar.
