I've had my 97 dodge avenger es for about four years in which within the first year I needed to get the transmission rebuilt. Now, ever since that I've gotten the computer reset three times to see if my idle would be corrected. No one seems to know how to fix the idle from dropping very low or even not running especially in the cold. It seems to float between the two lowest idle points just before it being on...Air conditioner kicks on just makes it a little worst. Can you help me figure out what's wrong? I really like my car but it's seriously pissing me off, can't cruise or take it on trip when it's like this...
Try the throttle position sensor, located on the front of the trottle body (depending on your engine...mine was there). It won't throw a check engine light, but a faulty TPS will cause the idle to be crappy, either high or low, as in your case.
Welcome to the board, and please keep us posted on your progress.
I did use a throttle body cleaner on my Sebring by spraying it into the TB while the car was running. This was as directed by the dealership. It screwed up my IAC .
